2. Big Mouth & Ugly Girl by Joyce Carol Oates — Matt gets accused of being a school terrorist, and Ursula is the only one who knows deep in her heart he didn’t do it. And, lo, a friendship is born.

3. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein — “It’s like being in love, discovering your best friend.”

4. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery — I’ll just leave this here:

5. Feeling Sorry for Celia by Jaclyn Moriarty — You know what helps you get through your best friend having a pretty thorough breakdown? Finding a new best friend to talk it out with.

6. Sharing Sam by Katherine Applegate — Greater love hath no friend than to let her dying best friend date the boy they’re both crushing on.

7. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford — Henry has so many awesome friends in this book: Keiko, Sheldon, and even Mrs. Beatty. This book really shows how fostering relationships with people outside of the home can help so much when someone doesn’t have the support of his family.
