I had a different topic planned for today, but the death of Prince has me reeling. So here are my top five Prince songs that I can think of right now. And by that I mean, I love many of Prince’s songs (his catalog is extensive), but these are the five on my mind today.
1. You Got the Look (w/Sheena Easton)
I love this song. I heard someone listening to it while I was driving home a little while ago and immediately found the radio station so I could listen as well. So good.
2. Diamonds and Pearls
I already posted a link to this on Facebook, but I really do have great memories attached to this song. When I was in dance, we had a routine to it. So whenever I hear the opening chords, I immediately flash back.
3. Adore
This guy I was friends with loved this song. I mean, LOVED. I had never really paid it much attention until he said he wanted it played at his wedding.
4. Kiss
“You don’t have to be beautiful / to be my girl” and “You don’t have to be experienced / to turn me out” are lyrics to live by. I am not kidding.
5. Gett Off
This song came out when I was in 7th grade. I loved it. There is probably not a more inappropriate song for a 7th grader to love. And yet.
So that’s my right now list, which doesn’t even include the songs he wrote for other people like “Nothing Compares 2 U” (Sinead O’Connor), “How Come You Don’t Call Me” (Alicia Keys), “Round and Round” (Tevin Campbell) or “Glamorous Life” (Sheila E.). Or “Purple Rain,” which I have many feelings about. So you know. Prince. He was pretty great.
For the A to Z challenge, I’m blogging about fannish pursuits (aka things I’m a fan of or have strong feelings about). Tune in tomorrow to see what I picked for S.
