So I realized I did the thing where I read comments and thought about what I was going to reply but never actually replied but thought I had actually typed up my replies. So I’ll be getting on that later this week. My summer class is almost done, so who knows what wonderful things await me. I mean, besides answering comments, obviously.
This past week, I read:
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
The good thing about starting this as an audiobook is that I could hear Jacqueline Woodson’s voice reading to me even after I switched to print.
The poem about discovering the children’s book full of black children was my favorite.
Stepping to a New Day: A Blessings Novel Book 7 by Beverly Jenkins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
It took me a little while to get in the rhythm of this one, but once I did, I really enjoyed it.
I got an ARC of this one so I can participate in the blog tour. Will review on the blog.
Currently, I’m reading:
I’m still making my way through Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The first tournament task is complete, and I have lots of thoughts on S.P.E.W. (Hermione’s house elf movement).
I am enjoying the audiobook of Shadowshaper by Daniel José Older (read by Anika Noni Rose). However, I’m getting impatient and want to just finish it already so I put the paper version on hold at the library. Sometimes I switch reading experiences because a book isn’t working for me; sometimes I switch because it is. Either way, I should be finished with that one this week.
I’m also planning to see Finding Dory tomorrow, yay.

Happy reading, everyone!
Is this your first read of the HP books?
I’m slooowly working my way through Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake. It’s unusual. Thin on plot, heavy on character. I’m interspersing it with A Darker Shade of Magic: A Novel, which is much more interesting.

No, no. I’ve read HP numerous times. I’m rereading GOF in anticipation of The Cursed Child. I think A Darker Shade of Magic ison my TBR. I haven’t heard of Titus Groan. I’ll have to check it out.

Oh only 2 stars for Brown Girl Dreaming? I’ve been listening to it for a while and am quite enjoying it.

I am fully willing to concede that it may have been the mood I was in when I read it. The writing was lovely, but I just found it okay.

Aw Goblet of Fire!! That’s fun. Goblet of Fire is one of my least favorite actually in the series — I feel like the plot doesn’t make a lot of sense, and I bloody hate the whole subplots with SPEW and the Blast-Ended Skrewts. But even a less-good Harry Potter book is still a treat in so many ways. I love Hagrid defending Dumbledore, and everyone going to the Quidditch Cup, and the way everything gets so dark (which is the register the series stays in for the latter three books).
