It’s Monday & I’m more than halfway through the semester

That means it’s almost over.

That means soon I’ll be able to breathe.

I don’t think I have ever looked forward to winter break more.

In other news, this week I got to meet literary goddess and living queen emoji Meg Cabot. She is every bit as funny and amazing as you would imagine. Also, she thinks I rule.

During the Q&A, I asked her two questions:

1. Have you ever considered doing a crossover between your books/characters?
2. Would you write another screenplay?

The answer to both was no, though she did say that she might consider the first one. Also, her explanations for both were hilarious and involved, and I swear, she is like a comedian. She will take a small thread from a story and then weave it into all of her subsequent stories and then come back to it like a punchline.

I love her, basically.

I also finished one book:

Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a sad and beautiful book about a sad and beautiful boy, and it just wormed its way right into my heart. Also, it almost made me cry! Twice! But in the best possible way.

Anyway, this was a joy to read, and even though it is sad, it’s still full of hope and love, and I am just really happy this book exists.

And I’m currently reading two:

I mentioned last week that I need something light to read as I was making my way through Last Night I Sang to the Monster. So I checked out Underworld by Meg Cabot since I never finished the trilogy. Also, you know, in anticipation of meeting the queen.

I bought this. Meg Cabot signed it. I’m reading it. That is all.

In TV news:

Okay, I gave the second episode of Insecure (HBO) a try, and I liked it much more. Enough so that I’m planning to keep watching it. I am pretty sure the things that irritated me about the pilot were still there, but they were may more toned down, so that’s good. Also, I am pretty sure the language and stuff wouldn’t have bothered me ten years ago. Or even twenty. Here’s some proof.

On the drive down to meet Meg Cabot, this happened:

Me: *listens to Biggie and 2Pac, jams along*
Daughter: *turns on Pit Bull*
Me: “That’s so vulgar!”

So, yeah.

Also I am watching Superstore as I type this, and Glenn’s decisions are stressing me out. But at least it’s funny again, and I am a smidgen less bitter about Telenovela getting canceled. At least this week.
