So for today’s A Month of Faves topic, the idea is to talk about our reading habits for the year, including number of books read so far. Let’s just start right here:
I spent most of the year ahead of schedule, but then I abandoned about six or so books in a row that I had made significant progress on. And then I had to grade a huge batch or research papers and the election happened. So, my worst reading month was absolutely November because I finished two books, one of which was a gimme: a reread of the Romeo & Juliet graphic novel that I assigned to my class. I mean, it really doesn’t even count.
I also stopped doing my monthly round up posts in July (11 books!), so I’m not even sure how many books per month I read after that (except November, obviously). Clearly, that is something I need to do a better job of keeping up with next year.
I read significantly more adult books this year, which is a trend I think I’ll continue. My first love will probably always be realistic contemporary YA, but I still have a desire to see what adults are up to, I guess. I am still drawn to YA and it still makes up the bulk of my reading, but I am less and less interested in it and would much rather read either middle grade or novels with teen/YA protagonists written for adults. Still contemporary and still realistic, of course, but definitely a shift in my preferred target market.
One of my reading challenges (Diversity on the Shelf) is going well. The other two (Goodreads, Read Harder) not so much. But there is still plenty of reading time left in the year, and once the semester is officially over, I know I’ll spend quite a bit of time reading actual books.
My best find this year was listening to full-cast plays via audiobook. Highly recommend if you have never given that a try.
Ooh, a full cast of a play on audiobook? That sounds so fun! I will have to look into it.
Have you listened to the first few episodes of the Homecoming podcast? It has a full cast of characters as well, and you might enjoy it 🙂

I didn’t know that was a thing either! I’m not much of an audiobook person and have tended to listen to memoirs and nonfiction so far. But I’m intrigued by full-cast plays on audiobook’
