It’s Wednesday, which means it’s not Monday. Still, I’m checking in.

Traveling to the march this past weekend put me behind on everything. Sigh.

First things first, though: I didn’t make it to the actual march because on the way there, about two hours outside of DC, I got sick and knew I wouldn’t be able to handle the walking or the crowds.

However, I still had a positive experience because of all the awesome women in my life, most notably my friend Monique who was willing to brave traffic, etc. to pick me up from RFK at 7:30 a.m. when I told her what was going on and also a woman named Crystal on our bus who supplied me with Dramamine and anti-nausea meds when I got motion sickness on the bus ride home (before I knew her name, even!).

And, yes, that means I got sick on the way there AND the way back.

Anyway, the best sign I saw this weekend was black text on a white background that said, “NOPE.”

Then, of course, there were the books.

My favorite things I bought last year

One of the Month of Faves prompts was “5 Purchases That Were Totally Worth It,” and I didn’t participate because I only had one purchase…or so I thought. Turns out I actually wound up buying some other stuff–some of which I didn’t get around to using or buying until after the prompt date. So, my favorite things I bought last year:

1. My house. I bought a house. It’s great. All the wall colors are colors I want. It’s still not fully unpacked yet, but that’s okay.

2. Hamilton tickets. This was a Christmas gift for my daughter. We’re going to see the show in March (in New York). Obviously,  I couldn’t post about this before Christmas, so.

“I was a professional amateur DJ.”

I’m supposed to be writing up my yearly self-evaluation, so now seems as good time as any to write a blog post.

So dumb. So cute. (via)

1. I continue to be in love with The Good Place. Jason Mendoza is the dumbest person alive (well, dead), and I may love him for it. Also, he died in the most Florida Man way possible. I mean, seriously. I can see the headline (highlight to read because spoilers): Florida Man Suffocates to Death in Failed Robbery Attempt. I laughed, but also: Jason. Seriously.

Picking Favorites: Jan. 14, 2017 Links

I am still trying to figure out a good way to title these posts. Also! I made a nifty little graphic for my link roundups, and I have been patting myself on the back rather hard about it.

First Full Week Back: Monday check-in

I only met with my students once last week, so this week is the full grind. A miracle occurred today, though! I didn’t bring any work home. The key seems to be going back to my office to do work instead of leaving immediately after class. Imagine that.

The rest of last week is a blur, for sure. All that course prep makes my brain go to mush. Oh, and I forgot to post this e-card a friend sent me when I was complaining about course prep last week, so here it is now:

Now that I’m back, of course, I’m fine (and even in the zone). But, man, that prep week is whoa.

Goals for 2017

For this year, I have decided not to participate in any reading challenges except for one, which I don’t even really consider a challenge since it’s what I planned to do anyway. Let’s call it a reading community, shall we?

It’s Monday & I go back to work TOMORROW

No, I’m not ready. Before the break, my boss called me to tell me she had to change one of my classes because she was afraid it wasn’t going to make. Turns out she was right: the class she switched me to had eight people in it after two days, and it’s currently full. Meanwhile, one of my other classes still has fewer than ten people so I feel like I may get another surprise switch tomorrow. It’s cool, though. I am prepped for the other possibility. It’s just a matter of getting everything in the LMS before classes start. (Did I mention they start Wednesday?)

Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and ScientologyTroublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology by Leah Remini

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay, so I listened to this on audio, which I think made it just that much more amazing.

Leah is a complete badass and spills ALL THE TEA. All of it. Every last drop. My girl names names and everything. ALL OF THE NAMES.

I love this book. Love, love, love. Remini is fierce and funny and also a little hood, which I completely appreciated.
