Okay, I crowdsourced this one on Facebook because I was stumped. I had one idea (jokes) and a suggestion from my daughter (job), but I wasn’t super excited about either one. THEN, my glorious FB peeps came through with a barrage of suggestions that included:
- Jam, Things That Are Your
- Joy
- Jesus
And I was like, omg, I’m going to do Jesus Jams. No, Joyful Jams! And a friend was all “JOYFUL JESUS JAMS” and I was like, “OMG, I totally got it now!”
So, I present to you the gospel song that keeps giving: “Jesus Be a Fence.”
This song works on levels. First of all, it does perk me up. When I was in a funk, it was on my pick me up gospel mix. But MORE IMPORTANTLY, when my daughter is driving me crazy, I start humming it, and it helps me calm down. In fact, she has often told me to stop humming at/about her because she knows that’s what’s happening. And I never told her which song it was–she just figured it out on her own.
I have used the abbreviation “JBAF” to comment on news stories. I use it when I just need to take a breath. When I’m texting my friends. When I just need to say it aloud because JESUS BE A FENCE.
But my favorite is that one of my friends will upgrade it when necessary. I believe her best one was “Jesus be a concrete wall.” I AM SURE SHE HAS OTHERS.
You should also know that there is another version out there by The Soul Stirrers, and one of the members is Sam Cooke. See what I mean about how it keeps giving? SAM COOKE. Whew.
Okay, and YouTube led me to this masterful version, too:
Their dresses! 😍
And because I can’t resist and YouTube led me to it, here’s Whitney Houston singing “I Love the Lord/Joy to the World”:
Oh, Whitney.
…and now I’ve fallen down a black hole of Whitney Houston gospel songs/performances on YouTube. I regret nothing. I told you JBAF is the song that keeps giving.
For the Blogging from A to Z Challenge this year, my theme is gratitude. Every day, I am going to post about something I am grateful for. Tune in tomorrow to see what I pick for K.

Have never heard that song before. Really enjoyed the videos.
