This day has been a day #SOL18

I missed posting last night (though I’m still on track for posting every day) because I was in such a crabby mood that I couldn’t even muster the energy to open WordPress. I wanted to post something kind of silly about how one of my students was being a jerk (we were talking about spoilers, and I think he was being deliberately obtuse), but it just felt disingenuous. Then, when I almost had a breakdown because I wanted a piece of toast but can’t have one (and not because of my elimination diet but because the grocery store never has the kind of bread I can eat in stock), I just knew it was time to call it a night. So I ate some Cheerios (since I couldn’t have toast) and went to bed.

This morning, I realized I also just wasn’t feeling well on top of being crabby–or perhaps that’s why I was crabby–so my morning was off to a winning start. Then, I went to prep for class and realized I lost my flash drive. The kicker is that I remember making absolutely sure I had it before I left my class yesterday, and I didn’t use it after class. But it’s not in my bag and it’s not in either of the classrooms I taught in yesterday (and, yes, I went back to check). So no flash drive for me. Which means I am finally just going to go ahead and use Google docs for everything from now on because I am just so pissed about this.

Both of my classes went well, but the other thing that threw me off is that I’m going to a conference for work over the next few days, and this entire trip just snuck up on me. I had to cancel office hours to go home and pack. And, of course, I was so exhausted that I had to take a nap. Taking a nap and being so unprepared for the trip means I was really unprepared for the trip and didn’t research parking options or anything for the airport. Also, my GPS took me to the wrong address so I wasted about five minutes getting there, and I was of course, running late. And, of course, I forgot the snacks I specifically went to the store to buy. Because why not.

Anyway, flight was good because I was able to sit next to my coworker, and we chatted the whole way.

But the sushi place on the corner is closed, so I wound up going to this restaurant a couple of blocks away and they served me a cold burger and fries. Their nasty hipster ketchup was nasty, and I can’t have regular ketchup or a bun, so I had to eat a dry burger and uninspiring fries. Oh, and I guess because the hotel is downtown, there are gates around the elevator so only guests can use them with their keycards, but they make me feel more paranoid than if they weren’t there, even though I get it.

So I guess my crabby mood isn’t completely gone. Anyway, the conference doesn’t start until 9 tomorrow, so I get to sleep in so hopefully that will help. And my appetite came back so maybe my stomach is done acting up. Fingers crossed.

  1. Alexander says, “Some days are like that, even in Australia!” Hopefully writing about your horrible day helped propel you forward to a better day today. Enjoy sleeping in and the conference.
