Meh #SOL18

I don’t know what to post about today, probably because I had a bit of a nothing day. Still, though, I feel like I’ve hit a wall.

Today, I woke up, showered, ate breakfast, checked email, did a little course prep, took a nap, set up my gradebook (finally), had a snack, and now I’m just kind of twiddling my thumbs. I don’t know why because I have plenty to do to prep for the week AND I’m going to get a ton of grading tomorrow AND I’m behind on Canvas grading. But I just am where I am, I guess.

Meh.

To end this on an up note, I am glad I set up my gradebook. Last semester, I used the provided attendance printout and just felt out of sorts all semester because everything was all scattered and not in one place. So I feel so much better knowing that all of my students’ information is neatly tucked in the pages of my gradebook. Whew.

Slice of Life is a writing challenge hosted by Two Writing Teachers.

Last week, I posted:

Since I’m doing the slice of life challenge again, I have actually made some posts this past week! In case you missed them, here they are.

Last week, I finished reading:

I finished one book last week and abandoned one. I anticipate March being a slow reading month since back to school time usually slows me down.

All's Faire in Middle SchoolAll’s Faire in Middle School by Victoria Jamieson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was cute and a pretty realistic rendering of middle school whether you’re making the leap from being homeschooled or not.

My favorite (“favorite”) part is the moment this dude calls Imogene’s dad “amigo” and she GOES OFF even though I don’t think she picks up on the microaggression. It’s a pretty great moment.

I’m not that interested in medieval faire stuff, but it’s always nice to see that different people have different lives, yeah? All in all, a solid read.

Ready Player OneReady Player One by Ernest Cline

Tapping out at chapter 12 of the audiobook.

I heard a lot of good things so was excited to read this, but it’s just one huge info dump and none of them are handled with any finesse. (Do I really need a biography of every single person involved with the creation of OASIS? No.) Also, I’m not really into reading about people playing video games since I’m not all that keen on watching them play video games.

I also heard great things about Wil Wheaton’s narration, but really, he (the character and Wheaton both, honestly) just comes off like a smug asshole.

So this one is just not for me.

My hold on an Agatha Christie audiobook came in while I was at the conference, but I haven’t actually started it yet and I’m not sure what I’m going to read with my eyeballs yet. Maybe once my mood improves I’ll figure it out.

Have a great week, everyone!

  1. I have Meh days too. I think I may actually be in a meh month. I am hoping a weather change will help with this meh. Unfortunately, we are preparing for another storm tomorrow!

  2. And, now that you’ve posted, you should feel GREAT! Trying writing down some things you are thankful for – that’s always a good way to reset your mind and look for something positive in a day that is feeling MEH.

  3. I felt pretty blah today too, and frustrated with work stuff. It’s hard to write when you aren’t motivated. I wrote TBAs- Truths, Beauties, and Appreciations. Might want to try it out the next time you have a blah day. It helped me!

  4. I like Leila Michelle’s thought about the time change. Maybe that’s why I feel so meh today too! Or maybe it’s because grades are due tomorrow and I am so grossly behind on reading blogs in one class that I think there’s really no way to catch up. Can I just throw in the towel?

  5. Time change, middle school hormones, frantic preparation for our trip, you name it, it’s got “MEH” written all over it! But, if we can get through this, we can look the final quarter of this school year and forward from there! 🙂
