Two updates to yesterday’s post:
1. I got to page 176 of Station Eleven, so didn’t make it to the 200s. Oh well. I probably won’t finish it until this weekend.
2. I forgot to mention what I did about the students who were absent when we set up the groups. Basically, the students who were present and I decided the absent group members would just have to deal with the decisions made by their group.
Also, today I learned that I should start with the groups whose members are missing when students are doing a task. Half of one group was absent today, and the other group members thought they had to wait for them to start completing the task to which I said, “Okay, sure, but what if they’re not here on Monday? You have to make decisions about what needs to get done, and if they have a problem with that, you can revise it or they can deal.”
So then they got to work on the big stuff, but, ugh, so much time lost. A learning moment for all three of us.
In other news, I am beat. I thought I was going to grade tonight, but the weather was so nice that I walked to the nail salon and got a pedicure. Then on the way back, I went to Trader Joe’s to get some food for tomorrow. When I got home, I ate a snack and watched an episode of Jane the Virgin. (I can’t believe I’m still two weeks behind, sigh. I love that show so much and yet always put off watching it. I need to get my life right re: that show.) And now I’m sitting here on the couch thinking about how I have prep to do for tomorrow but also could just go to bed.
Oh and it was so nice today that I gave a little shout-out to the vegan ice cream shop on the corner. Yes, I admit I mocked the vegans, but theirs is the only ice cream I can eat during my elimination diet, so really, who deserves mocking now? (I didn’t get any ice cream but I considered it and was so grateful that little shop exists.)
(I mean, it was really nice out today.)
And I just realized I’m so beat because I’ve been stressing out about the assignment sheet for this group project the past few days, which has led to some late nights. So, yeah, I’m going to bed. It’s really for the best. I can prep in the morning.
