#ReverseReadathon Wrap Up

This weekend, I participated in my first ever readathon, Dewey’s reverse read-a-thon. As a wrap up, I’m going to answer the questions from the Hour 24 Closing Survey.

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?

I have a regularly scheduled appointment on Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m., which is fine, but after that, instead of going straight home, I decided to run some errands which both ate into my reading time (though I did listen to an audiobook in the car) and also exhausted me, which led to me falling asleep for the last three hours of the read-a-thon when I intended to take a 10-minute nap.

My first readathon! #ReverseReadathon

Since this is the first time in EVER that my schedule has even an iota of room for me to read when one of these is going on, I just signed up for the Dewey Summer Reverse Readathon. I have only my regularly scheduled 10 a.m. commitment tomorrow and then an event at 5:30 (8:30 Eastern time–I’m on the west coast), so it’s like the stars aligned just so I could participate. It’s a readathon miracle! (Also a calendar miracle, tbh. Whew.)

11 Random Things

1. I’m listening to my daughter and her friend talk about building their Dungeons & Dragons game and is the nerdiest thing ever. However, super props for the level of planning and storytelling that goes into being the Dungeon Master (which her friend is).

2. Last week was full of car adventures. First, I ran over the curb entering the parking lot before we went to see the Mr. Rogers’ documentary (which is awesome–go see it). Then, I hit a parked car when I went to therapy. The good news is that both sounded way worse than they wound up being, I didn’t blow out my tire when I ran over the curb (which has definitely happened before), and I didn’t do any damage to the parked car (it was actually a van with a huge rubber bumper). The bad news is that now I have a scratch and small dent on the passenger side of my car.

It’s Monday & Syllabus has eaten my brain

I’ve finished a couple of books these past two weeks (more on that below), but the one that’s had the most impact so far is Syllabus: Notes from an Accidental Professor by Lynda Barry. In fact, the book has inspired two activities I did in my class the past two weeks.

I found myself making the same comment over and over (needs more imagery!), so inspired by Syllabus and “Variations on a Summer Day” by Wallace Stevens (snippet here), I came up with the following activity.

June 2018 Wrap-Up

I started this post yesterday and was all excited I would get my Monday post done on a Monday, but I got sleepy before I finished it and went to bed. Oh well.

Anyway, this month has been a month. End of the semester, beginning of the summer session, my birthday, a work conference. I mean, it’s been a lot. But I am here and it’s all good.
