#AMonthofFaves On the Screen

I am so glad that I can see the light from the bottom of the dark grading pit that I have been in on this, the day the prompt is explicitly about TV and the movies.

To wit:

WED. | Dec 11 – #AMonthofFaves On the Screen or in Your Ear – What did you watch this year that you absolutely loved?

Let’s start with the movies:

Okay, so my absolute favorite movie that I watched this year is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

It is absolutely perfect in every way. I even re-watched it when my parents visited this summer, and I still loved it. If you haven’t watched it yet, get on that. It’s streaming on Netflix.

Runners up that were also a very good time:

  • Blinded By the Light
  • Charlie’s Angels (2019)
  • Always Be My Maybe
  • Frozen 2

See, the thing about Frozen 2 is that you go for the whole singing sisters bit, but then you get hit with a story about colonialism, the effects of colonialism on climate change, reparations, and how White women have to be willing to die to tell the truth about history if anything will ever change.

Yes. All of that. Oh, and of course, trauma responses, but you knew that because of the first one.

More importantly, though, is it does all that in a neat little Disney story about two sisters learning about their parents while singing epic songs. And there is so much hope at the end! God, I’m so sick of bleak stories.

I have way more TV recs, but you knew that. These are the shows I’ve told people to watch this year:

  1. The Good Place (NBC / Hulu / Netflix)
  2. Schitt’s Creek (Netflix)
  3. Kim’s Convenience (Netflix)
  4. Ramy (Hulu)
  5. Dollface (Hulu)
  6. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Netflix)
  7. Russian Doll (Netflix)
  8. The Great British Baking Show (Netflix)
  9. One Day At a Time (Netflix)
  10. Jane the Virgin (CW / Netflix)

I have already talked about most of them here before, so you know. Watch them. They are good.

Also, I missed doing my Monday wrap-up since I was at the bottom of the before mentioned grading pit (it’s in the middle of hell, in case you were wondering), so here are the posts I made last week in case you missed them:

  1. I’ve heard great things about that Spider-Man movie but have yet to get to it myself. And I’ve been uncertain how good the new Charlie’s Angels would be, so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it!

  2. My daughter went to see Frozen 2 with friends the weekend it came out but the rest of us haven’t seen it yet. We’re hoping to see it on our Disney cruise in January and I can’t wait! I’ve heard so many good things about it!!!
