X is for Xbox #AtoZChallenge

I bought an Xbox 360.

When I bought it, my one friend said, “Oh, Lord. Now I know we’re not going back to work any time soon.”

My other friend said, “Why do YOU have an Xbox?”

There are two reasons:

1. One of my friends is immunocompromised, and she recommended I get the Xbox, so we could play Jeopardy (and other games, but, yes, it all comes back to Jeopardy) over Xbox Live. We can talk while playing the game and also, you know, have fun. It’d be a way to hang out since we can’t hang out.

2. I usually go to the pool to workout, and I can’t do that anymore. I was walking in the mornings, but then I stopped getting up early so now my walks would have to take place later in the day–say, after 11–and, well, it was in the 90s this week. I bought two dance games (one is The Hip Hop Dance Experience) and can use those to work out.

Another friend and I also talked about reviving the Dance Dance Revolution games of our grad school heyday. I haven’t had luck with a mat yet, but that could also happen.

So, yes. I bought the Xbox both to stay connected and also to make sure I move my body.

In all honesty, I haven’t done that great at either so far, but the fact is that now I can, and that’s all that matters.

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have decided that I’m going to focus on my survival/coping strategies while practicing social distancing. What are the things that make it bearable? What helps alleviate my stress and fear–or at least what distracts me from both? Tune in tomorrow to see what I choose for Y!
