⭐ DEC 4 – End of Year Bookish Plans

(What you hope to finish before the end of the year, what you’ve removed from your TBR, IG posts planned, challenges you still need to finish, etc.)

I’m going to expand this to include all media–well, books, movies and TV.

Books

Okay, so last year, I didn’t meet my Goodreads goal of reading 75 books, but I did read 68 books, so I set an initial goal of 65 books this year. And then, well, you know.

That’s right: COVID-19 happened. So I had to move all my spring classes online and teach online and then prep my summer class for online and then prep my fall classes for online. And, well, I couldn’t do all the book reading that I planned.

So I also–for the first time ever since I started doing the Goodreads goal setting–changed my goal to a lower, more feasible number: 45. According to Goodreads, I am on track to meeting that goal. I’ll also probably stick with that number unless things change drastically after the semester ends next week.

41/45 read so far

I don’t really plan what books to read by making book lists because then it feels like ~assigned reading~, but I am in a book club, and I do have a book in progress, so my plan for now is to finish the following two books before the end of the year:

  • Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer (I have already started this one.)
  • Orange Blossoms Love Blooms by Dalia Dupris (book club)

So, I’ll be ending the year with romance, I guess. I also have a couple of other books at home that I need/want to get to, and the library is doing curbside pick-up so I may also be putting some books on hold. WE SHALL SEE.

TV

I am so far behind on TV, y’all. Just…so far behind 😩.

Currently, I am doing Living Single as my comfort rewatch, so I’m going to keep plugging along at that. My daughter and I watch Great British Baking Show together, and we are only on episode three (three!) of the new season. Oh, and The Masked Singer is currently airing, so we’re watching that (which we’re about one episode behind on–I think). I am waiting for my daughter to catch up on Schitt’s Creek so we can watch the final season together, which has been complicated by her friend staying with us because said friend is only on season two, so we can’t watch ahead of that when she’s here because, you know, spoilers. SO. And I just started Voices of Fire. And I want to get into Grey’s Anatomy since it’s airing new episodes. As in, I plan to start with the currently airing season and then possibly hop onto Netflix and fill in the years and years I’ve missed.

Other TV I plan/want to watch over the break:

  • The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special
  • The Queen’s Gambit
  • Dash & Lily
  • Julie and the Phantoms
  • Teenage Bounty Hunters
  • Looking for Alaska
  • Love, Victor

I also plan to pivot to either Sister, Sister or X-Men: The Animated Series for my next comfort rewatch. And then, of course, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Oh, and I wanted to watch The Good Place again. But that all depends on when/if I finish Living Single. Also, you know, my mood.

Movies

I try to force myself to sit down and watch at least one movie per week. Here’s what’s currently on my slate:

  • The Forty-Year-Old Version
  • Dance Dreams Hot Chocolate Nutcracker
  • Jingle Jangle
  • Love, Simon
  • Happiest Season
  • The Incredible Jessica James
  • Let It Snow
  • I Am Not Your Negro
  • Wonder Woman 1984

And that’s not even counting the Christmas movies I usually watch because it’s the season for Christmas movies or the Christmas movies I may just decide to turn on because I’m in the mood. And who knows what else Netflix and Hulu will add to their rosters? And I forgot to check Amazon Prime! And I just remembered that I did plan to watch some Columbo over the break and all of those episodes are movies! Also, Disney and HBO have other movies!

It’s a lot of pressure.

So we’ll see what actually gets watched.

  1. I’m at 35 books right now and I’m looking at trying to finish with 40, so I understand. I’m actually surprised that I will have this many.

It doesn’t seem like you’re behind on TV. It seems like you have a lot you’re already watching and plan to watch. I can tell you that Love, Simon is very good. I’ll be interested in hearing what you think and of Love, Victor too.

    1. Ah, but I am behind on TV–specifically Schitt’s Creek and Great British Baking Show. I don’t want to get spoiled for either, which is why I need to get caught up as soon as possible. It’s my fault for inviting my daughter into the fold, honestly.

  2. Typically my GR goal is 40 books and I usually get somewhere around there. I have no idea what happened this year but I managed 83 books. I am still shocked by that because I don’t really feel that I had more time to read this year.
