#AMonthofFaves Happy Moments from This Year

⭐ DEC 16 – Favorite Things [At Home Edition]
(Room in the house, reading spot, time of day, daily habit, etc)

Happy moments

I really like how Bryan focused on his favorite moments in the daily life prompt from Dec. 11, and since I already focused on things in my response to that prompt, I’m going to do moments today.

February

I went to San Francisco to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The plan was to see it with my friend N but she, unfortunately, caught the flu so was unable to go. However! My other friend from Florida wound up being in San Francisco for a work thing, so we were able to catch up and see each other for the first time in years. The other good news is that my friend N was well enough to have visitors on the last day of my stay so I and a mutual friend got to see her for a short visit.

I also won the lottery to see a touring performance of Frozen.

I wrote about both experiences here.

March

If it’s on the calendar, it’s official

My friend Amber came to visit! I did not take any photos. The good news is that we got to spend a ton of time together AND we discovered a neato restaurant with gluten-free pancakes that we went to at least twice while she was here.

My daughter turned 21! I made her a cake (blue by request). We went out to dinner. We went to the movies. This was three days before the Shelter-at-Home order went into place.

My longest running friends and I spent a lot of time catching up with each other, wondering why it had never occurred to us to FaceTime and do a group chat before. Then, we participated in Social Distance Spirit Week and sent each other pictures of us fulfilling the prompts. (Crazy Sock Day pictured above.) It was fun.

May

Don’t worry about seeing a before picture

I finally did my eyebrows after saying in March that I would just let them grow wild and free during the entirety of COVID-19. Several Zoom meetings and selfies later, and I had to face…well, my face.

June

I had a birthday! I had a very awesome birthday because I spent it talking to and/or spending time with almost all of my favorite people. Also, on a group Zoom, I mentioned I took a long nap, so my friend said she hoped I had a good nappy (😴💤) birthday, which was hilarious so my other friend made this graphic to celebrate the gaffe. This was seriously one of my favorite moments of the year. Nappy Birthday! It never gets old.

July

I got my braces off! Thank God. The worst part of quarantine had been the fact that I didn’t know when I would be able to go back to the orthodontist to get rid of those godforsaken things and then I got them off almost a month early. WHEW.

I facilitated the writers’ visits of my school’s special summer creative writing academy and got to interview four boss writers, including Jasmine Guillory and Bridgette Bianca.

I called Chris Santos from Chopped annoying on Twitter, and he responded. I may have died.

August

I had been wanting to get my hair cut since…last summer, I think. I finally took matters into my own hands because I just couldn’t stand my hair anymore. Also, the pool in my complex finally opened back up, and I was able to exercise (water aerobics) once again, which resulted in me finally getting a tan.

September

…and then the fire nation attacked. So, it was scary to leave and for a sucky reason, but I did get to spend a lot of time with my best friend and my parents (as well as get face time in with some other friends) in the Eastern time zone (curse Tennessee for not being on the actual coast *shakes fist*) when we left town because of the huge fires raging in California.

October

it's me, standing in front of a truck!

I drove a giant pick up truck. It was awesome. Full story here.

Oh, also I made my way back to California. It was good to be home.

And then The Great British Baking Show came back! With a season filmed during COVID! Have I finished the season yet? No. But it’s something to look forward to, now that the semester is over.

November

Mail in for the win

My daughter voted in her first presidential election and, THANK ALL THE GODS, Biden won.

three stockings!

We got an unexpected house guest who will be with us through Christmas (and possibly New Year’s) and decorated the tree.

December

A Month of Faves is back for another year, and now I share this post with all of you.

  1. Wonderful moments! I might have to do this to wrap up this year of madness! OAN—I can’t believe you have a 21-year-old. Did you have her when you were 2?! You look about 21 yourself!
