Hi, welcome to my blog! My name is Akilah, and I’m a community college English professor who loves to read and watch TV and movies. I blog about all of those things and sometimes my adventures out and about in the Los Angeles area as well as my adventures with my daughter. I also sometimes blog about whatever else I want because it’s my blog, and that’s what blogs are for.

Why “The Englishist”? Because one day my friend kept talking about how she knows science things because she’s a scientist, and I was like, “Yeah, well, I know about reading and writing things because I’m an Englishist.” So here we are.
