It’s Monday and I have given up

To wit, this exchange I had with a friend on Friday:

Me: I’m trying to get it together over here

Her: I’ve given up hope of ever getting it together

Me: I need to do this. I was almost to the gym before I realized I left my headphones at home which meant I had to do my workout in silence like some kind of animal–a dolphin perhaps? Or a gym rat
Then when I changed out of my swimsuit I discovered I left my bra at home.

Also, to continue last week’s trend, I got to two places early this past week only to wind up late because of parking. Again. So, yes, I have given up on ever getting ahead this month. You win these first three weeks, January. I’m just keeping my head above water and making a wave when I can here for the rest of the month now.

Still, I managed to finish two books this week:

It’s Monday! What are you reading? on an actual Monday! + #AMonthofFaves

Wow, so much happened in the past week that I don’t know where to begin.

1. The big thing is that the semester ended! I gave final exams, I graded graded graded and then graded some more.

My friend sent me the end of semester bingo card from social media, and I asked her if every square could be “Grading until you cry” and “more grading.” Because that was my main mood.

Patti LaBelle and Step Aerobics

Today is the last day of class before the end of NaNoWriMo, and my students are very studiously working on their drafts, so I figured now is as good a time as any to update.

1. First, let me just say that watching my creative writing students write during NaNo has been such a delight. They come in and get right to it. Headphones on, laptops or notebooks open, and away they go. I have put a prompt up on the board every day (some requested it), but I have no idea if they’re using them–I just know that they’re intensely focused on writing. It is a joy to behold.

It’s Still Not Over

This was a terrible weekend for me re: food. I almost had a meltdown twice–once on Saturday in the grocery story and then again on Sunday when I was just doing stuff around my house. I think what happened is that I finally realized that my elimination diet was not a temporary thing as I thought it would be and is pretty much it for me from now on. As I have mentioned before, there was only one FODMAP group I tried that had zero negative effect on me, so the rest are pretty much out unless I want to risk having a flare-up. And these are basically all the foods I ate before.

Not the end, but the beginning

My semester officially ended yesterday–just in time for the summer session to start tomorrow 😅😬. I signed up to teach a summer creative writing workshop because it sounds “fun,” and now that I have exactly one day to prep for it, I’m reconsidering my life choices 😂😂😂.

The good news is that it will be fun! The better news is that the creative writing coordinator has basically prepped the whole class for me. I just have to plug in some readings and, you know, do the actual work of teaching the class. There are worse ways to spend a summer for sure.
