March 19th #SOL25

March 19, 2025

Okay, today’s post is going to have to be fast because it’s 10:50 p.m., and my friend is on her way over here to pick something up, so I know once she gets here, I won’t be able to write.  My day:

  • Therapy – It’s therapy.
  • Teaching – I had a student use AI so I had to give my don’t use AI lecture especially since we’re doing a summary and the whole point is to put it in YOUR OWN WORDS. The student who used AI was late so missed the lecture, but! I think they glimpsed the slide when I was fooling around with the computer because they were very glum when we had our conference. I had them tell me what everything meant, told them that they understood, and that I want to hear THEIR voice not AI’s. The student had done it right but put it into AI to make it “sound smart,” so then I had to give the class my sounding smart means presenting information clearly so people understand.
  • Office hours –  I spent office hours and beyond fighting with the two printers, One wasn’t working. The other wouldn’t connect to my laptop so I had to go to the office with my flash drive to print. Found out when I got there that the printer only prints PDFs from the flash drive and not Word docs. The good news is that I figured out how to batch convert Word docs into PDFs and how to put them all in one document so that I only have to print ONE thing from the printer and not each individual file.
  • Theater – I went to see Topdog/Underdog, the play written by Suzan-Lori Parks. Both actors were amazing, but it was heavy. A friend of mine said she was underwhelmed by it and I’ll see her this weekend, so I’m looking forward to discussing it with her.
  • Home – And now I’m home. I talked to my daughter for a hot second before going to my room to write this post.

It’s now 11 p.m., and I’m hitting post. Sorry in advance for any egregious typos.

You are not the only one slicing before the deadline. I’ve been calculating the time across time zones, lol! (Thus, the day late reply).

I had no idea you could batch convert Word files to one PDF! That is useful information.

AI lessons are so fun. Our students aren’t quite using it yet, but it isn’t the case of other schools within our district. Fun teaching times.

Glad you made your post on time.

Well done for making it today. Thanks for sharing your day. The AI issue seems difficult to manage, when you want to hear the voices of students.
