C is for Corona Princess Diaries #AtoZChallenge

April 4, 2020

Living queen emoji Meg Cabot has decided to bless us with Corona Princess Diaries. That’s right: completely free updates of The Princess Diaries in which Meg Cabot shows us how Princess Mia is handling the global pandemic.

If you have never read The Princess Diaries before, this is an excellent introduction, though it does spoil the (obvious) ending of the book series and also has mild spoilers for the Middle School Princess series. You can read this to get a sense of Cabot’s writing style and humor and why I love her with my whole heart. (Also, of course, you can get a sense of just how different the book series is from the movies.)

Here’s an excerpt from Day 3, which made me laugh out loud:

Grandmere (glaring): If you must know, I was dancing with Chad and Derek.

Me: Chad and Derek? Who are Chad and Derek?

Grandmere: They’re my new friends from Gainesville, Florida. They go to a very fine college there. It’s number one in the US.

Me: You mean the University of Florida? You were dancing with Spring Breakers from the University of Florida?”

(This is especially funny to me because I lived in Gainesville and went to UF.)

I also laugh every time Mia refers to Grandmere as inFLUENZer because of her refusal to comply with social distancing. You can just feel Mia’s frustration and disdain every single time.

This series is seriously like a balm to my soul. Meg Cabot is doing the Lord’s work, and I am here for it.

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have decided that I’m going to focus on my survival/coping strategies while practicing social distancing. What are the things that make it bearable? What helps alleviate my stress and fear–or at least what distracts me from both? Tune in tomorrow to see what I have chosen for D!

Also, my friend Sindia has decided to join the challenge, and she’s new to blogging. If you have a moment, please pop over to her blog and check out her first post!

Apparently, the trend is to do top-three lists. It looks like it started with WOWilkinson, so I'm just going to riff...

Meg Cabot is the best! I saw an article yesterday where TV writers were asked to share how their characters would deal with the pandemic. I only read Tina Fey’s and the guy who wrote Friday Night Lights (blanking on his name now), but I felt better for reading Coach Taylor’s pep talk!

Yes, that article was so good! I read almost all of them because I was familiar with the shows, and they made me so happy.
