Egg Rolls & Game Night #SOL25

almost scammed

I definitely almost got got by the scammers

I almost got scammed yesterday because I posted something on Facebook Marketplace and promptly broke the most important rule, which was letting the person message me outside of Facebook. Hot tip: DO NOT DO THIS. Anyway, I ultimately did not get scammed because the person got fake Zelle to send me a fake message from zelle10@gmail.com. But respect to the scammer for either hacking someone’s account or setting up a fake FB profile that goes back at least fourteen years.

Here’s what the screenshot says:

Scammer; I just received an email from zelle now saying the payment is being hold on your end because it’s not a business account it says they send you a notification email about it also is that true?
Scammer: Can I see the screenshot of the email zelle also send to you please.
Scammer: Hello
Me: Nice, you almost got me

I don’t know what else to say. Today was pretty uneventful, but I did have a packed weekend and not just because I almost got scammed. I already posted about the Pasadena Festival of Women Authors, but the part two to that is the monthly game night I attend was right outside of San Diego, and it was also on Saturday. My friend also had to work, so we headed down around 3 (game night started at 3:30, but you know, work things).

The most eventful part of the trip is that we went to get the viral TikTok egg rolls. Now, I am not on TikTok but my friend is VERY on TikTok, so she said we HAD to go try the egg rolls because when else would we be headed in that direction, and it was ON THE WAY, etc.

My friend tried calling ahead and, well, let me just copy/paste what she said:

[the owner] basically told me off in Thai to not waste her time with 30 egg rolls lmao, ORDER AT THE WINDOW

she closes at 6pm

She makes them fresh

So we’re just gonna have to get what we get

God bless

????

(Okay, when I looked up the TikTok, I discovered that the egg rolls are in Anaheim, which actually isn’t that far, and I’m sure we would find ourselves out there eventually. I mean, neither of us is going to Disneyland any time soon, but still. I would have known this, but I fell asleep in the car so wasn’t paying attention.)

So, we get there, and the TikTok people are very good about saying how to find it, so we know to go to the back to order. When we get there, there are only two people ahead of us. My friend says that she thinks we have to order at least 10, but since she’s not sure, we ask the lady behind us who says she doesn’t know because she also is only there because of TikTok. Then, the guy in front of us says, “We’re all here because of TikTok.”

So we order from the two options that are available (pork and taro or crab, pork, and shrimp) which were the two we wanted. They’re ready fast, so we sit down and eat them. Now, the flavor is delicious, but the egg rolls themselves are a little dry. My friend had the foresight to get sweet and sour sauce even though it cost extra, which we weren’t expecting. However, we discovered that the sauce was homemade. This is important because I usually don’t like sweet and sour sauce at all, but theirs is very good.

We crush about half our order, so I get up to order more. I ask the woman working the window how she’s doing, and she says she’s tired. I ask if she’s been busy and she says, “Nonstop. People have been coming all day.”

Slice of Life is a writing challenge hosted by Two Writing Teachers.

I tell my friend that I hope the extra business from going viral means they can hire more help because that lady was exhausted.

Then, we drive to the game night, which is being held at my friend’s house who doesn’t live far from the beach. We get there as the (very small) group is getting back from the beach, so we get about maybe thirty minutes with them before everybody but the host jets. I tell the host we’re going to be staying because we just drove three hundred hours to get there so have to make it worth our while. She’s cool with it, so we eat and talk for a few hours and then drive home.

On Sunday, I was a crabby mess, which probably contributed to my almost getting scammed.

Still, all in all, a great though very busy weekend.
